‘Horror comes from within’

Demons Inside Me is a 2019 Canadian horror feature film about a young woman who becomes psychotic while at a male-dominated holiday home. The previous title was Jade’s Asylum.

Written and directed by Alexandre Carrière (Homekilling Queen; Zombie at 17), the Jacob Films production stars Morgan Kohan, Sebastian Pigott, Drew Nelson and Kjartan Hewitt.

While attending a housewarming party in Costa Rica, Jade Williams falls victim to a psychotic episode. However, Jade’s delusional jealousy disorder may have nothing to do with it. Don’t build a mansion on sacred ground, some landowners had said……

Reviews [click links to read more]:

“The imagination in every scene/sequence is enormous, and Morgan Kohan gives an incredible performance to root all the strangeness in her character’s all-too-human struggle. The eerie, earthly killers are a design marvel that’ll surely turn up in a nightmare or two.” Father Son Holy Gore

Jade’s Asylum achieves in creating an eerie atmosphere with its use of sound and cinematography, as it shows both the beauty and horror of this paradise. The performances are all solid, but obviously, it’s Kohan’s show. She makes a great addition to the shortlist of Canadian final girls.” Flickfeast

“Personally, the characters simply weren’t developed enough for me, which meant I didn’t care too much about their well-being (or lack thereof). Also, the very spiraling way of telling the story was not my cup of tea. It took away from both the characters and the very good practical effects.” Heaven of Horror

“The cognitive dissonance of remarkable creature effects against some of the most low budget and least effective on-screen tricks I’ve ever seen is boggling. Demons Inside Me will give you emotional, mental, and thematic whiplash. Some might call it a “rollercoaster ride” and since it made me motion sick while begging to get off they may be right.” Horror Buzz

Jade’s Asylum is one of those films that has a lot of great ideas, and Carriere certainly has a unique sense of style, but so much of the film is weighed down by odd choices, like taking up over five minutes of the short runtime with an outtake reel at the end. Visiting Jade’s Asylum will surely drive you mad.” Killer Horror Critic

“Morgan Kohan, as Jade, is a compelling lead. She gives a performance that runs the gamut of emotion: from fragility to insanity, from timid to psychotic; and at every step of the way her portrayal is totally believable […] Meanwhile, the other stars of Jade’s Asylum are the mysterious (and somewhat hideous) tree-men…” Nerdly

” …Morgan Kohan is great as Jade and keeps the character sympathetic, even if everything else in the movie tries not to.  The monster makeup was cool and was different from any monster I had seen before, and seemed like they would have fit into a season of Channel Zero.  But if you’re looking for a psychological thriller or a fun slasher, confusingly (as confusing as the film) this movie is both and neither.” Nightmarish Conjurings
