‘This is not just another trip…’
The Land of Blue Lakes is a 2021 Latvian horror film about five friends who go camping on kayaks to the place where pagans once lived. They decide to film their trip for social media, unaware of the ancient evil that’s awaiting them there…
Written, photographed, directed, co-edited by and starring Arturs Latkovskis.
The movie also stars Veronika Rumjanceva, Alina Sedova, Vladislavs Filipovs and Edgars Jurgelans.
Reviews:
“Other found-footage horror films have had millions of dollars to play around with and delivered terrible results. Conversely, director Artur Latkovsky (who also stars in the film as the primary cameraman) uses the shaky-camera format to create Latvia’s first found-footage horror film on a shoestring budget. And it works really, really well.” Philosophy in Film
“Obviously, if you’re a fan of this kind of bare-bones found-footage film then what I’m saying sounds like a recommendation, and please take it as such. But the genre has evolved beyond sixty minutes of camping followed by ten minutes of everyone getting killed. For myself, I wasn’t actually bored but The Land of Blue Lakes never grabbed me the way films like The Fear Footage or Red Woods did either.” Voices from the Balcony
