Reviews:
“The script needed a few more drafts, it is filled with many lines of dialogue that go nowhere and a plotline that feels absolutely paper thin. The entire third act makes absolutely no sense […] It is just a constant reminder that the writers didn’t think things through enough, and the holes in the story are very easy to see.” 5 out of 10, Fiction Horizon
“Honestly, it is a decent film that could be your one-time watch, if you are a fan of the lead characters in the film. In terms of CGI, it is quite impressive in places but in the fight sequences, it’s a blink-and-miss kind of situation. The actions are pretty quick and often indistinguishable to realise who is hitting whom. Overall, it has all the elements of a sci-fi genre film with a bit of emotion here and there.” 3 out of 5, Leisure Byte
“Overall, the film has done a decent job. The only problem with the movie was that the writing style and the screenplay could have been better considering the fact the film was under making for a couple of years. Other than this the film has elements to entertain the audience and keep them for one and a half hours.” 7 out of 10, Midgard Times
“Overall this was an interesting sci-fi action movie with some well-crafted action sequences in certain parts but not that impressive in other parts (at least for me). The story was not its strong suit, although it was not something that would really bother me too much as long as the entire action could make up for it. The final fight scenes were very good but the ending felt a bit anticlimactic…” Mike’s Movie Moments
“There are sprinkles of other movies throughout, ‘The Tomorrow War’, ‘Aliens’ and ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ seem to have plenty borrowed from, despite bringing its own twist to everything […] The team on the mission go through a string of different sequences, each being edge-of-the-seat action, with each character having something to prove.” 4 out of 5, Movie Reviews 101
“Honestly, I too am moved by Louis Koo’s vision and even as I’m cracking jokes here, I don’t feel like punching down on this film. It has my respect for its ambitions and it’ll probably be remembered as a pioneer film. However, the film will struggle to impress an international audience as English-speaking audiences won’t be as forgiving with its script and matter-of-factly written subtitles.” Obsessive Cinema Disorder
“The extensive use of CGI may have been inconsistent at times but it’s good enough for a Hong Kong sci-fi movie. The creature effects (the ferocious mantis-like aliens) and the robot designs (the RoboCop‘s ED-209-like heavily-armed robots and the mecha suits worn by Tyler and Johnson) have a distinct video game-like feel and look.” Screen HK
” …there are many frustrations, but when you get past them, there is still an entertaining film here. The film probably bites off more than it can chew with environmental decline, asteroid impact, alien plants, and bad AI, but I will take a movie trying to do too much over one that doesn’t try at all.” TL;DR Movie Reviews and Analysis
