Plot synopsis:
Miami’s top mob enforcer Cuda (Antonio Banderas) sacrifices it all to tear down the criminal organisation he’s spent his whole life building up when he discovers his boss Estelle (Kate Bosworth) is putting a young runaway’s life in grave danger.
Now he has one last chance to make up for his past and find redemption – both for himself and his family – before the mob hunts him down for his betrayal…
Reviews:
“The Enforcer gets lost trying to manage needs of the heart and the hardness of tough men, introducing a rival (acting novice 2 Chainz) who complicates the situation for Cuda, identifying the depth of depravity in his vocation. Violence erupts and confrontations are messy, but Hughes doesn’t have the sharpest imagination for screen tension, and Iliff moves away from more internalized pain, playing into marketplace demands with banal physical activity.” 5/10, Blu-ray.com
“Even though The Enforcer will probably make most of its money on PVOD, I got to see the movie on the big screen and it has some saving graces. Young actors Griggs, Aria and Alexis Ren as Stray’s girlfriend Sloane give it their best shot and derserve more roles. Especially Aria has a Jesse Pinkman kind of energy which may take him far.” A Celebration of Cinema
“While Mojean Aria and Kate Bosworth can make you want to stay throughout the duration because of their performances, they are not enough to mask the inadequacies of the film from its scripting to its narration. The arc of redemption that the film attempts through its script might feel satisfying to a viewer. However, what The Enforcer takes you through to reach there is a heap of mess that I wished to have rather skipped.” High on Films
“The charm is in Antonio Banderas, who can still get his Desperado on as he kills many thugs by beating and shooting them. He appears to be the lone performer who excels in spite of the clunky script by W. Peter Iliff. Unfortunately, The Enforcer uses tropes that we have seen a hundred times before in better movies…” Punch Drunk Critics
” …watching this movie is absolutely not a punishment, although it should be clear that there are also plenty of other and more fun things you could do in 90 minutes. Still, a fine film to watch for fans of the ‘revenge’ subgenre, although there is nothing in this film for them that makes it really special.” Seal_Team 1138
“A middling script is likely to blame as it includes plenty of cliched locations, dialogue, and subpar rap tracks which litter the runtime. You’ve seen this all before. The Enforcer brings out greatness in Banderas but mediocrity from most others involved. Its averageness can’t be denied, but a new talent in Hughes shines through…” 3/5, Voices from the Balcony
