Cruel Peter is a 2019 Italian horror film about a torturous bully who is killed in an act of revenge but lives on after death. It has also been released as Cruel Peter: The Boy and Mama.
Directed by Christian Bisceglia and Ascanio Malgarini, the Makinarium-Rai Cinema-Taadaaa Entertainment movie stars Angelica Alleruzzo, Antonio Alveario and Aran Bevan.
Plot:
It is Christmas 1908 in Messina, one of the richest merchant cities of the Mediterranean. Peter, the thirteen-year-old son of a rich English family is notorious for his cruelty to children, animals and servants.
One night he is ambushed and wakes up in a coffin underground in the city’s Gothic cemetery, buried in retaliation for his callousness by a servant boy from his mother’s estate. When a powerful earthquake razes Messina to the ground, Peter is trapped and his whereabouts are forgotten. Until a century later an English archaeologist and his daughter arrive in the city…
Reviews:
“It’s sort of by the numbers though albeit a good storyline but heavily stamped with predictability. The special effects are pretty good, not great but between talking and walking rotting corpses, climbing on walls and demons voicing their dismay it should satisfy the hunger for the average horror fan.” Crystal Clear Movies
“A wasted premise and a couple of good scares can’t save this dud of a film. Really poor writing and abysmal acting.” Matt Melia
“Some nice settings and visuals (manor house, old cemetery, Italian landscape) and a decent production make this one an okay movie – if you are interested in a haunted house and evil spirit stories. The weak side of Cruel Peter is the story – more or less your typical story without any great surprises.” Tweetienator
“The filmmakers were trying for mood over jump scares and fast editing which is a nice change. But without some new ideas that pace just means you can think about where you’ve seen it done before. And frequently done better. Beautiful scenery and effective cinematography can only do so much. And even with above-average CGI they can’t elevate this above watchable at best.” Voices from the Balcony
