ONUS (2020) Reviews of British folk horror

‘Sometimes we all have to make sacrifices’
Onus is a 2020 British folk horror film about a young woman that accompanies her female partner to visit her wealthy family. Unfortunately, trainee nurse Anna begins to suspect that her presence may have more to do with ritual sacrifice than it does meeting the parents.

Written, directed and edited by Alex Secker (Follow the Crows), the movie stars Daniella Faircloth (Follow the Crows), Erin Leighton, Tony Manders (Wreck; Mother Krampus; Fox Trap) and Karen Payne. Produced by Marcus Starr.

Reviews:
“The director has made a kind of class war horror movie, where the increasingly caricatured personages in the house become braying cyphers of a section of society who always seem to get away with things. If the horrors which were expected in Onus remain half-glimpsed, the ones we weren’t remained on full display until the last second of the film.” Bloody Flicks

“Maybe it was an attempt to subvert the genre expectation, but it did feel like it would never end. Until it actually does. I’m trying hard not to spoil things here as it would make it difficult to explain without giving away that ending. But for a sophomore effort, which certainly had its budgetary limitations, it is a decent effort in the horror genre.” BRWC
