MAR.IA is a 2023 Argentinian sci-fi horror film about an erotic movie star who is brought back from the dead to seek revenge.

The movie was directed by Gabriel Grieco and Nicanor Loreti from a screenplay written by the latter.

The Camauer-Crep Films co-production stars Dana Panchenko, Sofía Gala Castiglione, Malena Sánchez and Magui Bravi.

Plot:
In 2024, Maria Black is one of the biggest and most prolific naughty movie performers. When she falls into a coma after a car crash, her medical outlook is weak.

Then her body disappears from the hospital and media speculation is rife, but soon the news cycle moves on.

Reviews:
“Sofía Gala Castiglione and Malena Sánchez are fantastic as the two women in a male-dominated crew who absolutely do not support the direction the group go in and more importantly who fight back with everything they have when called upon. There’s some lovely neon lighting throughout and the production is very slick for the most part […] this little film from Argentina is great fun.” Fright Club

“Grieco and Loreti are quick to get to Maria’s narrative reveals, and once these pleasantries are dispatched, the more debauched fun can begin. As quickly as they get in, the duo also ensure that Maria doesn’t overstay its welcome and manages to be the perfect length to keep the audience sated and never bored.” ★★★ The Hollywood News

” …mostly a splatter runaround […] with Maria taking some punishment to show the metal and blinking lights under the flesh Terminator-style – and dim memories of 1980s efforts like Steel and Lace and Eve of Destruction.  It’s not long enough to be boring, but it is fairly rote.” The Kim Newman Web Site

“The limitations of the film’s fun, gory practical effects are neatly masked by some interesting editing choices and the neon explosion which covers the screen. On such a low budget, it is always great to see that the crew managed to come up with fun and unique solutions to hide some of the film’s limitations.” The London Horror Society

“This is a lurid, trashy work that never takes its themes too seriously, and at times feels as though it might have been pieced together by AI fed on the sleazy schlock of the Eighties and Nineties – but it has women’s liberation and empowerment at its heart.” Projected Figures
