The Shasta Triangle – USA, 2019 – initial reviews of sci-fi mystery

‘Where would you go to get home?’

The Shasta Triangle is a 2019 American science-fiction horror feature film about a young woman attempting to uncover the truth about her father’s disappearance.

Written and directed by Barry W. Levy based on a story by Helenna Santos; the movie stars Dani Lennon, Ayanna Berkshire, Helenna Santos, Deborah Lee Smith and Madeline Merritt.

Plot:

Paula, a woman in her thirties, returns to her hometown of Shasta, California to uncover the truth about her father’s disappearance when she was a child. Her parents were fringe scientists using ancient geometry to figure out what was causing a mysterious horn-like sound happening all over the world.

First, her mother died mysteriously, and then her father disappeared when she was young, and Paula has come back to Shasta to get closure on what happened. When her childhood friends discover she is back, they join her and travel deep into the Shasta woods.

Once they reach the old area they played in as children called the “hide and seek tree”, they are held captive by forces beyond their control forcing them to challenge the very nature of reality. In a terrifying battle, Paula comes to know the truth of what happened so many years ago, at a cost to herself that she could have never imagined.

Reviews [click links to read more]:

” …a compelling story driven by a strong, all-female cast — something rarely seen in genre movies. A surprisingly suspenseful sci-fi/horror mash-up, The Shasta Triangle blends the eeriness of Blair Witch with the mind-bending twists of Black Mirror.” Bonita’s Geeky Blog-Fu!

” …looks and feels like a movie with a much bigger budget. Perhaps the only reason to hesitate recommending The Shasta Triangle is the film’s fleet-footed 74-minute runtime (that includes the credits). The brief length leaves viewers wondering what could have developed had the movie given itself just a little more time to breathe and develop its story.” The Model American

“Why are these worlds in conflict? Why do all over them except ours seem to know what’s going on? The answers seem to have been held back for a sequel. All The Shasta Triangle gives us is a group of bickering women and the occasional pretty visual effect.” Voices from the Balcony
