‘To serve. To protect. And to fight the undead’
Amityville Uprising is a 2021 American science fiction horror film about a police sergeant fending off a zombie uprising.

Written and directed by Thomas J. Churchill (The Amityville Moon; Big Freaking Rat; The Amityville Harvest; The Day of the Living Dead).

The Action House/Church Hill Productions/Lions Gate Entertainment co-production stars Micah Fitzgerald, Mike Ferguson, Joycelyne Lew, Troy Fromin and Scott C. Roe.

Plot synopsis:
A sergeant from the Amityville Police Department must protect his son from zombies after a chemical explosion at a nearby army base releases toxic gas into the air causing acid rain that reanimates dead bodies…

Our view:
Although clearly inspired by Assault on Precinct 13 and having little to do with Amityville except the location of the town (but at least there’s some B-roll footage showing they went there), this one wastes the presence of Mike Ferguson who has little to do. Beyond a feeble CGI explosion effect here is way too much minor drama and some failed attempts at humour before we get a few zombies in the final few minutes and an abrupt ending.

Other reviews:
” …in some moments where something serious or ominous is attempting to be portrayed, it can be laugh out loud goofy. Depending on one’s taste, this can pull you out of the suspense or make for a fun cheesy time […] A more problematic issue for the film however is its pacing. It takes a decent 40 minutes to get the ball rolling on anything action related.” Bloody Disgusting

“ …Amityville Uprising’s biggest issue isn’t its awkward acting or production design put together on a dime. It’s that there’s hardly any horror at all. For more than half of its runtime, Amityville Uprising plays like ‘A Day in the Life’ of an average neighborhood police station, with all of the dull drama that entails.” Culture Crypt

In North America, Amityville Rising was released on Digital, On-Demand and on DVD by Lionsgate on January 11th 2021.
