Reviews:
“Like An American Poltergeist – a lopsided film which had one genuinely disturbing idea – Conjuring the Beyond gets a bit cutesy with its homages to horror classics and has some makeshift performances – Larkin is as British as Richard Johnson, but a burly rugby-player type oddly cast as a boffin – but it’s also sincere, low-key creepy and occasionally strikes sparks.” The Kim Newman Web Site

“The story does offer up a nice mystery but it does feel like it ends up falling flat around how everything unfolds. When it comes to the pure haunting moments, they do offer up a scary situation using sleep paralysis as the main terror. The performances in the film are great…” 3 out of 5, Movie Reviews 101

“I feel that perhaps it was a low budget that prevented this from being more entertaining. It was also low ideas though, there needed to be some variation, rather than having each scene of horror playing out near identically. There also needed to be more explanation of what was going on, as it felt the protagonists were making up solutions as they went along.” 4/10, The Rotting Zombie

” …while the premise, sure enough, is rather on the far-fetched side, a well-structured script that goes for under- rather than over-statement, and a solid direction keep things grounded while a relatable to even likeable ensemble cast bring the thing to life rather nicely, to make this cool genre entertainment.” Search My Trash

“Overall, the film itself I found to be slow moving. I also think they could have added more to it than just the occasional sighting of the sleep demon. It seemed like it was missing something, but I’m not sure what. The best parts of the film happen within the last fifteen minutes […] The acting was fairly decent.” She Scribes

” …there are a couple of short scenes of what looks like a blue-lit alley that passes for nightmares. There are quite a few scenes of the creature leaning over, or even crawling onto its victims […] Conjuring the Beyond has a few good moments, and McCarthy does a better job here than he did with An American Poltergeist. But that’s not saying much, and it’s not enough reason to sit through a film that may well have you sleeping along with the characters.” 1.5/5 Voices from the Balcony
