‘Keep your demons closer’
Neon Lights is a 2022 American horror thriller about an odd tech tycoon who invites siblings and their offspring to his remote estate.
Directed by Rouzbeh Heydari (A Hundred Lies) from a screenplay written by co-star and co-producer Dana Abraham based on Heydari’s story. Also produced by Kim Coates and Trevor Smith.
The movie also stars Brenna Coates, Brit MacRae, Stephen Tracey, Rene Escobar, Jr., Erika Swayze, Lauren Howe and Kim Coates.
Tech tycoon Clay Amani (Dana Abraham) retreats to an off-the-grid location in search of meaning and peace, with disconnected siblings and their offspring, only to be caught in a bone-chilling killing spree within his new estate…
In the US, Momentum Pictures will release Neon Lights On-Demand (VOD) and Digital on July 12, 2022.
“Things finally become interesting as the film races towards its finale. The plot does away with poor attempts at misdirection and actually works at telling a coherent story. It does become silly and the final shot pretty much erases everything that was done in the previous minutes, but it is also the first time audiences can follow along.” AIPT
“Take note: non-linear editing alone cannot substitute a lackluster plot or amateurish acting […] This could have been a Sixth Sense-style debut. Instead, Neon Lights is ironically a dark slog of confusion, repetition, and poorly-directed, annoying characters.” Cinefied
“For something so complex, it is shot very utilitarianly. I felt like a spectator, never being drawn into the drama and with not a care for any of these characters. For all the filmmakers’ attempts to be crafty and innovative, the final act falls into derivative plot devices with an ending that feels like a “poor man’s” attempt at presenting a homage to the end of Psycho.” Fears Mag
