Reviews:
” …Williams works to overcome expectations with an enjoyably lively picture, and one that addresses issues of fear-based rule and misinformation, using classic Disney adventure moves to help the audience stay comfortable with a slightly more challenging viewing experience.” 4 out of 5, Blu-ray.com

“The Sea Beast looks great, and for me, it’s engaging enough for a while, but even still, at almost 2hrs, this does go on way too long. Kids will have more tolerance for it, though…” DVD Fever

” …does find something to say about the way history is written, how it’s consumed, and how it is manipulated for a variety of reasons […] Some of these characters are not always on the right side of things, and one of the film’s most beautiful moments casually lingers on the damage that has been done for gracefully emotional impact. The Sea Beast offers up a spectacular and thoughtful journey with epic-scale action.” Flickering Myth

“A few slightly pantomime-voice performances apart, this is terrific stuff, a rousing buddy movie between plucky orphan Maisie (Zaris-Angel Hator), fearless hunter Jacob (Karl Urban) and a misunderstood horned monster nicknamed Red. The film features dazzling action and a fantasy world that is realised with an almost tactile level of detail. Seek it out on a monster-sized screen if at all possible.” The Guardian

The Sea Beast is an interesting attempt at raising points about humanity versus nature. While I doubt most who watch will be examining it on a layer so deep, The Sea Beast provides plenty of fish food for thought.” Josh at the Movies

“It’s more adult than you might think, but rarely jarringly-so. Generic, harmless enough and watchable, with a few touching moments — seeing the old harpoons sticking out of the “Dragon”/gecko designed beast — and plenty of violence. But charm and humor are in shorter supply than you’d hope. There’s barely a funny moment in it…” 2.5 out of 4, Movie Nation

“The film has various worthy messages for children (and maybe even adults) amidst its spirited adventures and a delightful heroine in Maisie.  Jared Harris appears to revel is his bellowing force of sea captain without succumbing to ocean going cliché […] Williams has articulated an entertainingly ironic divide between Crow’s amusement and Jacob’s exasperation with Maisie.” Reeling Reviews

The Sea Beast offers audiences a wonderful example of how effective animation can be. What makes it practically perfect is that it accomplishes everything it sets out to do. It is funny, exciting, beautiful, and all-around meaningful. There are no weak links, and if there were any, it would be understandable.” 4.5 out of 5, Screen Rant
