Tin & Tina is a 2023 Spanish mystery horror thriller about a married couple who adopt a religiously-obsessed brother and sister.

Written and directed by Rubin Stein based on his 2013 short film of the same name. Produced by Diliana Alexander and Olmo Figueredo González-Quevedo. Executive produced by Paola Sáinz de Baranda.

The movie stars Milena Smit, Jaime Lorente, Carlos González Morollón, Anastasia Russo, Teresa Rabal, Sergio Ramos, Joserra Leza, Luis Perezagua, Antonio Figueredo Manrique and Chelo Vivares.

Plot:
After a tragic abortion, Lola (Milena Smit) and her husband Adolfo (Jaime Lorente) adopt Tin (Carlos González Morollón) and Tina (Anastasia Russo), a seemingly angelic brother and sister with an ultra-Catholic education that makes them interpret the Holy Bible verbatim.

Reviews:
“If Rubin Stein makes one thing clear with Tin & Tina, it is his vision. The director offers one of the best stagings so far this year. The way in which he plans the entire film is brutal, each shot that you see is a meticulous and detailed work, where the composition is the most careful, a style that reminds of Ari Aster at certain times.” 4 out of 5, Cinemagavia [translated from Spanish]

” …a drama that is very overloaded with very interesting styles among which it is scattered a bit. It manages to be a good thriller, entertaining and serious, with lots of good intentions and attracting a lot of attention in various ways. Although the most memorable thing that lies beneath all that suspenseful religious artifice is the human and period drama, Milena Smith’s particular hell.” 7 out of 10, e-Cartelera [translated from Spanish]

Tin & Tina comes out of nowhere and is positioned as a great horror movie where the disturbing takes a backseat, and where the drama is intermingled with the mystery to tell an intriguing story. Rubin Stein moves away from the conventions that have been taking place lately in the horror genre to build a film that plays with tension and with what is not seen, and that results in an original and satisfactory proposal.” 4 out of 5, History of Cinema

“Religion plays a big role in the movie, and politics is also mixed into it, but I didn’t see the impact of it till the end. Sure, religion is used as the mysterious boogeyman, but it’s not so much religion as it is two brainwashed kids and a frustrated wife and mother that are the main problems here. The film would’ve still been great without the Bible verses or the sporadic mentions of politics.” 3.5 out of 5, Leisure Byte

“The intention of the film is to make us uncomfortable and weird, but it makes us lose ourselves when it goes aimlessly or when things don’t add up. Do they do evil like antichrists or do they innocently misinterpret the biblical texts? Specifically, it happens that the film sometimes plays with the supernatural and other times plays with prejudices or misunderstandings.” Movie Mentarios [translated from Spanish]

“We get to enter the world of creepy kids here and it is very effective. From the moment you meet the siblings you know something creepy is going on about them […] Tin & Tina is terrifying from start to finish.” 4 out of 5, Movie Reviews 101

“The script is functional, although it goes without saying that the story swings so much between children and adults since sometimes it seems that it jumps from one to the other just to justify the progress of the story or the suspicions of the protagonists. Of course, the portrait that he makes of the children is very intelligent…” Terror Weekend
