The Hive is a 2023 American sci-fi horror thriller film about a couple who return home from a night out to find two strangers waiting to terrorise them.

Written, executive produced and directed by Jared Allmond. Also executive produced by Timothy Haug, Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor.

The Haug MGMT production stars Timothy Haug, Christie Griffin, Miles Taber, Blake Eli, Julianne Ruck, Elizabeth Schembre, Mark Norwood, Whitney Reade and Anabelle Crivelli.

Plot:
Albie (Timothy Haug) and Penny(Christie Griffin), a young couple with a failing marriage, try to rekindle the fire by having a night out by themselves. To make matters worse, the couple returns home to discover armed strangers in their home.

With no help from their neighbours or law enforcement, the pair attempt to get evidence of the intrusion. They’re captured by the intruders and tortured for information. There’s no hope until Albie escapes and saves Penny. So hellbent on revenge, he puts their marriage on the line. Unfortunately, all help has been compromised and there’s nowhere to run…

Reviews:
“It uses the idea of an unexpected home visit well and shows the confusion and tactics to get what they want. This plays into a disturbing reality that could be seen from the conspiracy theorists of the world. However, it uses more psychological terror over any sort of disturbing bigger factors.” ★★★ Movie Reviews 101

” …alien invaders are very smiley and don’t squabble with each other at all. They even smile as they badger our central twosome, constantly nagging/asking them about the ‘collective consciousness’ but to no avail. In fact, that’s pretty much all they do […] In a nutshell there’s nothing new to see here however the performances are much better than you’d expect from a lower-budget film and the pace never flags.” 2 out of 10, My Bloody Reviews

” …a fun addition to any film fan of the unusual’s watch list. It’s one part Invasion of the Body Snatchers, one part The Strangers, and 100%  a trauma-filled dark ride full of drama and sci-fi thrills. Come for the home invasion aspect and stay for the otherworldly outcome that this intruder-driven sci-fi thriller will deliver to you in a tightly wrapped package.” Nightmarish Conjurings

” …I thought the plot was interesting enough that you would want to stick around to the end. Despite not really liking either of the two protagonists, I thought that The Hive was an interesting diversion from a typical home invasion film. Blending sci-fi with horror worked well, and the story, while well-trodden, was still engaging to watch.” 7 out of 10, The Rotting Zombie

“The ending is one you’ll have guessed well before it arrives and the morning after coda feels cheap and manipulative, not to mention clichéd, rather than frightening. Perhaps if Allmond had put as much effort into taking the main story in an original direction rather than overdeveloping the film’s subplot, The Hive could have been a serviceable thriller” ★½ Voices from the Balcony
