” …it didn’t feel like there was a real “monster”. Yet that is perhaps just further evidence of how the film manages to subvert genre expectations, while also shamelessly seeking to deliver a throwback to the eighties. That’s not an easy task to pull off, and if Woodruff doesn’t manage it perfectly, the hits are more frequent than the misses.” Film Blitz

“The film was directed by John Woodruff, who is making his debut. However the direction is flat, there’s no tension at all in the scenes and it simply is not scary at all […] Animal Among Us is not the worst film I’ve seen where someone or something in the woods is attacking people. It’s certainly not as bad as the terrible Primal Rage. But it’s hardly a ringing endorsement.” The Grump of Horror

” …we have the screenplay by Jonathan Murphy; full of twists and turns, unique takes on well-established tropes, and impossible to fully guess upon first viewing…this is a narrative that holds on to the viewer and takes them on one hell of a suspenseful ride. Adding to that is the skillful directing of John Woodruff who ensures the story never stalls…” Horror Fuel

“Structurally, Animal Among Us is fairly solid, but it fails on so many other levels that the narrative’s skeleton doesn’t amount to anything. You can have a great outline for an essay, but until its actually written and fleshed out with good content, it’s nothing. Very little works as a whole and the things that are actually decent aren’t good enough to support any one aspect of the film.” Killer Horror Critic

“A bit of confusion in logic in our lead female characters drag a would-be creature feature out of the woods and into a soap opera at the end of Christian Olivier’s over-the-top character. Not even Alex Mack can save this case. The bright side of these dark woods is Burl Wolf played by Don Frye.” Without Your Head
