‘Some memories are better left dead’
Intervention is a 2022 horror film about a young woman who is suffering from amnesia after a near-fatal attack.

Produced and directed by Samesh Ramjattan, making his feature debut, from a screenplay co-written with TDM Flynn.

The British Brava Studios production stars Amber Doig-Thorne, Bibi Lucille, Laura McQuiggin, Jasmine Rachelle, Heather Elise Nelson and Lucia France.

Plot:
Laura Green suffers from amnesia after a near-fatal attack causing her memories to be erased every night once she goes to sleep. Each morning she must reacquaint herself, painstakingly piecing together fragments of her jagged past from cryptic clues on her computer.

When her friends’ give her a video call to celebrate her birthday, reminding her of a life she cannot recall, she becomes suspicious. Are they being completely truthful? Are they even her real friends? Laura soon learns that her friends are not who they say they are, and the truth behind her attack harbours the key to a sinister twist to her own identity…

Our view:

Intervention has all the hallmarks of a lockdown Zoom-type isolation production. It’s as dull as most of the unnecessary films made during this strange period and the running time of an hour and 45 minutes is painfully elonged. Some of the performances are better than expected for a low budget production but there really isn’t enough material here for anything beyond a short despite a slight upturn towards the end.

Other reviews:
“Granted it’s an interesting blend of ideas, but the trauma suffered by the central character lacks any gravitas […] In the final analysis, if the narrative was pruned down into a short film it might have made a more interesting and engaging story. At one hour and forty-four minutes, it just drags on and becomes a chore to watch.” Fears Mag

“It became a chore to get through, and none of that had anything to do with the script or the acting. It all had to do with how this story was told. There is definitely an audience for a movie like this, and maybe it’ll play better in time, but right now it struck me as a film that furthered my own reality rather than gave me an escape to another.” Nightmarish Conjurings

“There’s just not enough in the script to keep it interesting […] It needed to get to the point and into the final act before the pace really began to drag. There is some video in Intervention’s final minutes but it’s not enough to inject any life into the proceedings, the film is way too deskbound by that point.” 1 out of 4 Voices from the Balcony
