Reviews:
” It fulfills the expectations of a horror film, providing enough thrills and suspense to keep viewers engaged. The familiar tropes and the classic “trip into the woods gone wrong” theme may not break new ground, but they serve their purpose effectively. Overall, the film does justice to the allure of Scottish cinema, offering a combination of stunning landscapes and a chilling tale of survival.” All Horror

Mercy Falls is a movie that has incredibly strong female characters and gorgeous scenery […] and builds a real sense of tension by the end of the film. There are real stakes here between the two women at the heart of the story […] The gore in this is more than effective. It feels like something you don’t want to dwell in, moments of hearts pumping blood as people die.” B&S About Movies

“It all builds as you’d expect, to a somewhat decent face-off between the heroine and villainess. It is somewhat problematic, in that the latter’s background should give her such an edge, as to be able to wipe the floor with Rhona inside ten seconds. Something like handicapping Carla with an injury could have helped make the playing field feel less one-sided. However, we were still reasonably invested in things by this point, and McKeown definitely makes for a convincing nemesis…” ★★★ Girls with Guns

“It inevitably boils down to what you might call a Scottish version of Predator, only with a woman in Gore-Tex instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Carla’s unhinged, keffiyeh-wearing fugitive instead of old crab face. But at least Carla has the good grace to knock off the ensemble in ascending order of acting ability, leaving this contrived trek resting in the steady hands of Lyle, who always underplays with an intriguing resoluteness.” ★★ The Guardian

“Entertaining brutality throughout, there’s implicit high tension and although the plot is definitely not groundbreaking, from cliffhanging to balancing across a stump above a ravine, anticipating what’s happening next is part of the fun. Lyle and in particular McKeown are quietly achieving physical leads with enormous character effectiveness, whilst their co-stars including James Watterson as Scott and prominent Layla Kirk, as Heather are emotional convincing during the assault.” ★★★ The People’s Movies

” …there’s enough here to keep the film moving along. Credit goes to Lauren Lyle in particular, who is given a lot to do and a lot to carry into the final act; in fact, she offers the most nuanced performance throughout, and deserves recognition for that. If you can let your eyes glaze over at some of the rookie errors, then you just might find enough to enjoy in the often baffling melee.” Warped Perspective
