Reviews:
“Kim feels authentic playing Meg, with some scenes being a bit too hard to watch because of how deep she goes to portray Meg’s trauma. Audley and Ireland’s performances as Scott and Madeline feel equally villainous […] and comforting, lulling the viewer into a false sense of security while keeping them on their toes. This sense of uncertainty but with seeds as to what could be going on helps to grip the viewer from start to finish…” ★★★★★ Austin B Media

“Director and writer Olivia West Lloyd has put together a movie that slowly makes you wonder who is right, why Meg has gone through all of this and whether anyone can be trusted. I always wanted to see a movie where a Final Girl tries to deal with the PTSD that had to come from dealing with a horrific situation. This does that but puts her into an even worse one.” B&S About Movies

“The film is composed mostly of conversations with sinister undertones and weird noises happening in the background of otherwise normal activities. The goal seems to be to throw viewers into the protagonist’s world of disorientation and anxiety, and to that effect, it mostly succeeds. However, the fatal flaw of Somewhere Quiet is that it doesn’t build to anything, thus feeling extraordinarily anticlimactic by the end.” ★★½ Disappointment Media

“With the lack of mystery and being thrown into the headspace of Meg leaves an uncomfortable eerie feeling, the third act doesn’t have the payoff possibly intended, and this makes the movie less satisfying than expected. However, Jennifer Kim is revolutionary, and that alone makes the journey one worth taking.” ★★★ Elements of Madness

“Between the interesting concept and the well-done exploration of trauma there are some really great moments in this. They don’t always coalesce to making the entire experience a top film of the year but there’s a lot to like here. If the plot interest you then you won’t be left disappointed. I think that Jennifer Kim gives such a great performance that really borders the line between too much and not enough.” Grade: B+ Film Snob Reviews

“Lloyd does a superb job at the helm and with her screenplay, keeping viewers in the dark while slowly unfolding layers of mystery. Ariel Marx’s score adds a further unsettling air to Somewhere Quiet. Meg cannot get any easy answers to her questions, suspicions, nor how much of a grip she has on reality, and neither can viewers.” Horror Fuel

“Kudos to Kim, whose performance leads us to overlook some of her character’s inconsistencies, at least while viewing. Lloyd’s structuring of the film means that we’re too busy guessing what’s at play to interrogate some of the flaws in the script […] There’s not much in the way of suspense here, and few shocks, but it’s elevated above Lifetime thriller of the week fare by its three central performances.” ★★★ The Movie Waffler

“Not only does Somewhere Quiet deal with the ramifications of surviving a kidnapping, but it showcases the microaggressions Meg has to put up with, which only increase her sense of disconcertment and not belonging. It’s jarring and settles uncomfortably, but the film is nonetheless engaging to watch, so invested is it in the exploration of Meg’s mental state that we can’t help but worry about her well-being.” ★★★½ Screen Rant
