ELVES aka EVIL ELVES (2018) Reviews and overview

‘Have you been naughty or nice?’

Elves aka Evil Elves is a 2018 American supernatural horror feature film directed by Jamaal Buden and co-produced by Justin Price (director of The 13th Friday; The Elf; Forsaken) and Khu (producer of Den of Darkness; Dark Moon Rising; The Cloth).

The movie stars Lisa May, Deanna Grace Congo, Stephanie Marie Baggett and Amy Jo Guthrie.

After a freak accident kills one of her friends, Clover discovers that a group of elves have been scattered throughout town, each representing the seven deadly sins. It’s a race against time to survive the elves’ wrath before Christmas ends…

Reviews:

“Absurdly amateur acting. Happenstance lighting. I spend more on an average week’s groceries than seems to have been spent producing this movie […] All I want for Christmas is to forget Elves as fast and as fully as I forgot The Elf. Please Santa or Krampus, or whomever I have to pledge myself to, make my holiday wish come true.” Culture Crypt

“Storylines explain themselves useless as nonsense religious scripture rewriting ends up meaning nothing in the grand scheme of devil dolls ruining Christmas. Horrendously paced, blandly procedural in “market holiday” skewering, and inexcusable when it comes to how namesake Elves are downgraded in presence. Dare I say The Elf is a better movie?” Flickering Myth

Elves (2018) is a barely alright horror film that presents some creepy effects and unsettling situations. The acting was generally fine, there was a large roster. You didn’t really get to know or care about any of them, but that didn’t matter too much as it was great to see them crumble.” Gamer Headquarters

“I loved the expertly crafted elf dolls and my eyes stayed glued to them whenever a character lifted them up. Yet, the opening was too long and too ineffective. The film has a lot of great locations, but sometimes the more action oriented sequences were under the mark, as were some of the acting performances.” Horror Society

“Unfortunately the film is let down by bad dialogue, scenes of people explaining the true meaning of Christmas and religion in amongst the horror. Not to mention the dreadful camerawork in some scenes and that terrible looking ear to ear grin done in visual effects for when people get possessed by the elves.” Horrorscreams Videovault

“The possessions are usually signalled by the distorted faces of those being controlled by the elves. The same eerie effect was used recently in Within the Darkness (2016). It’s effective, and lets us know who’s who in a movie filled with changing roles […] Watching Elves won’t put you in Santa’s good graces, but it’s a fiendishly good time just the same.” Indie Horror Online

“The visual effects were well done, when the elves possess people, they have a creepy ear to ear grin. This was made possible through visual effects and it will remind you of the evil smiles from Truth or Dare, a clear inspiration which Elves even mentions in the dialogue at one point. The acting was not good, in many cases I felt if the script was better these performances would have been elevated.” OC Movie Reviews
