‘They could see everything. Until they saw too much.’

The Penthouse is a 2021 American thriller about a man covering up a crime who assumes a nosy neighbour may have seen what he did. He turns the neighbour’s lives upside down to keep his secret. But is there more to his motive?

Directed by Massimiliano Cerchi (Lockdown; Mayday; The Night Shift; The House of Evil) from a screenplay written by actor David Schifter, the Collective Film Group production stars Michael Paré (Shark Island; The Resonator: Miskatonic U; Bad Moon), Nicholas Turturro, (Escape: Puzzle of Fear; Hellraiser: Inferno), Vanessa Ore and Krista Grotte Saxon.

Plot:

A couple purchases the condo of their dreams overlooking the ocean. The boaters, who dock in the shadow of their high-rise, jokingly become their neighbours. When watching the comings and goings of one particular boater becomes more than a nosy quirk, the couple finds their lives tossed upside down by someone they should have just left alone.

Reviews:

“Although Paré makes it watchable, doesn’t make it good. The final fight scene was purely laughable. I can’t believe that sequence made the final cut. It was bad acting, a bad angle, and how the how thing went down made you audibly sigh. The Penthouse feels like it should have been called The Trailer Park.” Music City Drive-In

The Penthouse has one decent performance that comes from entitled antagonist Michael Pare (he plays scruffy scammer Charles). And the flick does have a few tense moments where the “violence of the mind” is present and ever thought over. Most of the time though, Penthouse is more a cinematic “outhouse” than a luxurious fit.” Views on Film

” …the biggest problem with The Penthouse is that nothing really happens. If you’re going to drive a thriller with dialogue those words have to be razor-sharp. And the acting has to match. Unfortunately, neither of them are. As I mentioned Paré is a major disappointment, and Ore looks like she’s sleepwalking through the film as well.” Voices from the Balcony
