‘Evil runs in the family…’
Beyond the Door: Embryo is a 2022 Italian horror film in development by Ovidio G. Assonitis (aka Oliver Hellman), the 78-year-old director and producer of the 1974 supernatural horror hit about a woman impregnated by the devil, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As per the promo artwork, the co-director of the 1974 film, Robert Barrett (Over the Line), will be co-supervising the new production with Assonitis.

The latter’s producer credits also include The Curse (1987) and its snakesploitation in-name-only-sequel Curse II: The Bite (1989), the weird Sonny Boy (1989), Piranha II: The Spawning (which he co-directed after sacking James Cameron), Madhouse (which he also directed, 1981), The Visitor (1977), giant octopus Jaws rip-off Tentacles (1977, which he also directed), The Man from Deep River (Umberto Lenzi, 1972) and the giallo thriller Who Saw Her Die? (Aldo Lado, 1972).

Set thirty years after the events of the original, the sequel will apparently see Juliet Mills reprise her role as Jessica Barrett who was possessed and had to be exorcised. The new plot concerns her daughter who discovers she is pregnant and is fearful that the real father might actually be Satan himself!

Previously, two movies were retitled to cash in on the success of the 1974 original: Mario Bava’s Shock (1977), which was marketed as Beyond the Door II in the US, and Amok Train aka Death Train (1989) which became Beyond the Door III. Neither of these films had any plot connection with the first one.
