THE COMMANDO (2022) Reviews of action thriller

‘Only one will survive’

The Commando is a 2022 American action thriller film about a DEA agent with PTSD who has to protect his family from home-invading criminals.

Directed by Asif Akbar (Morbid Stories) from a screenplay written by Koji Steven Sakai, based on a storyline by Asif Akbar, Al Bravo and Koji Steven Sakai.

The movie stars Michael Jai White (Take Back; Rogue Hostage; Black Friday; Assault on VA-33), Jeff Fahey (The Lawnmower Man), Brendan Fehr (Final Destination), Aris Mejias, Gianni Capaldi, Donald Cerrone and Mickey Rourke.

An elite DEA agent (Michael Jai White) returns home after a failed mission when his family makes an unexpected discovery in their house – a stash of money worth $3 million.

They soon face the danger and threat of a newly released criminal (Mickey Rourke) and his crew who will do whatever it takes to retrieve the money – including kidnap the agent’s daughters.

Stakes are high and lives are at risk in this head-to-head battle as the agent stops at nothing to protect his family against the money-hungry criminals…

” …a nasty, brutish, not-short-enough action film […] a series of fisticuffs, gunfights and brawls before good supposedly triumphs over evil […] Perhaps we are meant to infer she deserved it for throwing a party while her folks were away; that tells you everything about the intended audience for this pernicious nonsense.” The Guardian

“When one of a film’s supposed highlights is a high schooler getting shot while taking a leak and peeing all over his killer you know you have problems. Sadly that’s the case with The Commando. it manages to repeatedly botch its actions scenes on the way to one of the limpest finales I’ve seen in a film with a budget above five figures.” Voices from the Balcony
