Blood Predator is a 2007 sci-fi horror film in which the survivors of a plane crash fall prey to aliens in a cabin.
Written, directed and co-produced by Paul Gagné (Legend of Killers; The Slaughterhouse Massacre) who also co-stars. Co-produced by Robert A. Bradford.
The movie also stars Dale Anderson, Rayne Aspengren, future filmmaker Jared Cohn, (Vendetta; Swim; Shark Season; Fast and Fierce: Death Race; Alien Predator; Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill!; Devil’s Domain; Hold Your Breath), Bill Devlin, Mary Dignan, Mark Irvingsen, Jackie Joyner [as Jackie Freed] and Merry Simkins.
Plot:
A private jet crashes in the Sierra mountains but all seven passengers survive. With temperatures reaching the low 30s, the group searches for shelter and discovers an abandoned avalanche station. With a torrential snowstorm headed their way, they elect to take refuge until the weather improves. Two days pass, and with no rescue team in sight, the group decides to search for the plane, in hopes of fixing the radio to call help, but the fresh snow has covered up their tracks.
Stranded and starving, Zak, a snowboard champion, sets out on his own and soon turns up ripped to shreds. They are not alone.
One by one, the survivors are devoured alive by an alien creature with an insatiable appetite for human flesh. The remaining four band together to fight back and kill the human-eating aliens – or be eaten.
But the survivors are seemingly no match for these extraterrestrial beasts, as they have multiplied, and can spear their prey with a barbed-like tongue that pulls their victims into their razor-sharp teeth that shred human flesh like a haywire garbage disposal…
Hoping against hope, the survivors don’t give up. They devise a plan to trap the demons from outer space and explode the cabin
Our review:
A slowly paced opening kill scene with a briefly glimpsed creature doesn’t bode well for this low-budgeter. Shots of a model plane crash landing suggest that we may be in for a so-bad-it’s-good fun fest but such hopes are soon dashed via extended dimly-lit scenes of the slow-witted survivors bickering and making bitchy comments – though some of the abrasive one-liners do admittedly raise a smile – for what seems like an eternity.
Writer-director Paul Gagné throws in some rutting promiscuity and two topless scenes to offer up some sleaze, however, he forgets that what the audience wants is to see a Blood Predator offing the cast. We finally get multiple alien critters, some of which are practical and some of which are poorly rendered CGI, but it’s too little too late. A final fake explosion adds insult to injury while most viewers may have bailed long before the feeble climax.
