Plot:
In the early years of the Republic of China, villager Liu Feng leads a crowd up a mountain to dig. Unexpectedly, they awaken a massive snake that had been sleeping for a hundred years. During the villager’s attempts to escape, only Liu Feng survives. A few days later, the elders in the village begin to hold sacrificial activities to ward off the giant snake…

“While there is often an ecological message in these films, we rarely get the monster’s perspective and it’s quite striking. The problems are the scenes in between, which are too chatty and confusing (no doubt partly due to the bad subtitling), with flashbacks of questionable value. Perhaps with a better presentation, this would have been a top-shelf entry into the genre.” Grade: C+ Film Blitz
